Arthur is an associate at the Litigation, Arbitration and Employment Group at the Hong Kong office, specializing in construction and engineering disputes.

Arthur regularly represents employers, contractors and sub-contractors in court proceedings and arbitrations arising out of construction projects in Hong Kong and beyond. Arthur also has experience handling a range of commercial disputes, most of which involve a cross-border element.

Arthur is fluent in Cantonese, English and Mandarin.

Representative experience

Defending a main contractor against a High Court claim of circa HK$100 million by a sub-contractor in relation to a final account dispute over a project at Hong Kong International Airport.*

Representing a sub-contractor in a claim of ca. HK$240 million and defending a counterclaim of over HK$360 million in a HKIAC construction arbitration in relation to a luxury hotel complex in Macau.*

Defending a contractor in a HKIAC arbitration brought by the Incorporated Owners of a residential estate, involving a claim for liquidated damages and costs of completing defect rectification works. *

Defending an employer in an HKIAC arbitration instituted by a nominated sub-contractor regarding the final account in respect of hotel renovation works.*

Representing a sub-contractor in a government columbaria project in claiming prolongation costs in an HKIAC arbitration.*

Defending a main contractor against an HKIAC arbitration commenced by a sub-contractor under a name-borrowing sub-contract involving the construction of a public-sitting out area. *

Representing a main contractor in a High Court claim against the employer for the value of abortive work done up to wrongful termination of the sub-contract and loss of profit. *

Successfully defending a statutory body in a statutory appeal brought by a lift contractor challenging the imposition of industry levy on lift maintenance operations.*

Representing two main contractors in an HKIAC arbitration seeking the release of retention money withheld by the Incorporated Owners of a residential estate. *

Representing a HNW individual and a PE firm in successfully defending a HKIAC arbitration of over RMB 450 million arising out of an agreement for the sale and purchase of HKEX-listed shares. *

Advising a HKEX-listed company in a dispute with the Government of Mongolia concerning the expropriation of a major coal mine. *
