Paul is a Partner in our Perth office with over 20 years of experience in energy and infrastructure projects, including a wealth of knowledge in oil & gas. 

Paul’s understanding has been gained over many years working in the energy sector internationally, both in-house and in private practice. Paul advises project developers, investors, sponsors and contractors on their projects, in areas including acquisitions and divestments, joint ventures and project governance, legal risk management, contracting strategy, major procurement, dispute management and regulatory issues.  Paul's experience extends to projects in  Europe, West Africa, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region.

Paul has a deep understanding of legal and commercial risk and strategy; an ability to identify, distill and communicate complex legal and commercial issues in a clear and concise manner; and a pragmatic and commercial approach to handling major transactions and negotiations.

Advising a supermajor E&P company on a major offshore LNG development project, including negotiation of the joint operating agreements and unitization agreements.

Advising an Australian listed E&P company on LNG processing arrangements and associated projects agreements (particularly joint venture agreements and equity lifting agreements).

Acting as seconded general counsel to support Quadrant Energy during its trade sale / IPO process by its private equity owners, including transition and completion of its $2.15bn sale to Santos Ltd.

Advising clients on various time and voyage charter parties, both as charterers and as vessel owners, including BIMCO SupplyTime and TowCon charters.

Advising on offshore seismic acquisition contracts (proprietary and multi-client) and contracts for offshore drilling activities in the north-west of Australia.

Advising an Australian exploration company with acreage offshore Papua New Guinea on a technical services and farm-in option with an E&P supermajor.

Advising a Chinese energy company on the oil & gas aspects of the proposed takeover of a listed Australian E&P company.
