Seiji Niwa is counsel in the Litigation, Arbitration and Employment (LAE) practice group, and also works closely with the firm’s Antitrust, Competition and Economic Regulation (ACER) team. He is a seasoned litigator with extensive experience in a wide variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, securities and bankruptcy litigation, antitrust, and white collar matters.

He has worked on both civil and criminal matters, sitting across the table from private plaintiffs as well as government enforcers, and understands different players’ needs and objectives. His antitrust experience includes government investigations, class action litigation, unfair trade practices, antitrust counseling, trade associations and merger clearance. He also counsels his clients on compliance, litigation readiness and electronic discovery. Seiji also has broad industry experience including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, oil and gas, chemicals, financial services, industrial components, electronics and retail, among others.

Seiji is a member of the New York bar. He has spent his entire career working with Japanese companies and has lived in Japan for nearly a decade. He earned his JD from Columbia University School of Law and his MALD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and draws upon his cross-cultural background and significant international experience to provide Japanese and international clients with practical, commercially astute advice across a range of issues and jurisdictions.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Seiji worked for a leading international law firm and the United Nations, and also served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Roslynn R. Mauskopf of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
