Salomé Cisnal de Ugarte is a Partner in the Antitrust and Competition group of Hogan Lovells.
Clients come to Salomé for her innovative and hands-on solutions to antitrust issues. She advises on all aspects of EU competition law, but has significant experience in cross-border mergers and strategic joint ventures, high-stakes investigations and complex vertical issues. She has successfully advised clients on phase I and phase II merger cases before the European Commission and coordinated multinational merger filings all over the world. She is sought by clients for her particular expertise in competition issues relating to the digital economy, including artificial intelligence (AI), algorithms, platforms and data.
Salomé was recently re-elected as Vice-Chair of the Competition Policy Committee of AmCham EU. She frequently lectures on EU competition law at academic institutions, such as Harvard Law School, College de Europe, IE Law Schoole, ESADE, and VUB, as well as at industry fora. She also serves as Elected Director on the Board of the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) in Cambridge (US) and is a former President of the Harvard Club of Belgium.
Salomé graduated summa cum laude in law and economics from the University of Deusto (Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura) and holds a master of laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School, where she was an associate fellow of the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard. She obtained a PhD in law from the EUI in Florence and has been a Fulbright scholar.
She is admitted to practice in Belgium and Spain.
