Rika Beppu

Rika Beppu
English, Japanese
Practice Group

Rika has a deep understanding of the complexities involved in bringing an M&A deal to a successful close. An excellent communicator and team leader, she is a trusted adviser to corporate clients who can rely on her to practice a "no surprises" policy when it comes to legal pitfalls and legal fees.

During her 20-plus years' career as a corporate M&A lawyer in international law firms in London and Tokyo, Rika has experience of working on secondment at a major Japanese law firm and the export-credit agency of Japan. She was promoted to partner in London and moved to Tokyo in 2001 to establish her former firm's Tokyo office prior to joining Hogan Lovells.

Rika advises Japanese and international clients on their M&A transactions in and out of Japan, as well as supporting their day-to-day commercial projects. Rika has expansive knowledge of multi-jurisdictional corporate transactions, and is adept at leading a team of expert lawyers across the firm's network.

Rika qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales in 1994 after her two-year training contract in London. Her legal education and career started in the UK, where she moved to after receiving her BA degree in English Language and Foreign Studies from Sophia University in Tokyo. She also qualified as a solicitor of Hong Kong in 1997.

Rika is ranked as a leading practitioner in the leading legal directories. Rika is truly bilingual in English and in Japanese.

"Rika stands out for her international expertise and is 'a great M&A lawyer who can build a team on a global basis to best fit the transaction'".
