Richard Tyler

As a partner in the Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure team, Richard Tyler's main focus is on International oil & gas and LNG Projects, but he is also active in Energy Financings, acquisitions and disposals, restructurings, energy and commodities trading, power projects and energy regulation. He led the award winning Hogan Lovells team which acted for the Shah Deniz Consortium as Project Counsel on the US$ 45bn Shah Deniz 2 and Southern Gas Corridor Projects. He has received praise from client for his commercial and industry knowledge, his 'hands on' approach to getting projects and transactions completed and his team's ability to deliver projects on time and on budget.

The Shah Deniz and Southern Gas Corridor Projects will enable the EU to source Caspian gas for the first time and provide Azerbaijan with a Gas Export to the West. In short they change the Energy Map of Europe. Richard has hands on experience of negotiating Production Sharing Contracts, Host Government Agreements and long term gas sales and pipeline transportation agreements. He also has substantial knowledge of electricity industry agreements including tolling, power purchase, connection, GTMAs, EFETs, industry codes, CfDs and off take agreements for various types of green certificate.

Advising a Dutch utility (Eneco) and separately a Danish gas company (DONG) on long capacity agreements with two of the proposed LNG projects in Rotterdam.

Advising ExxonMobil on long term LNG sales contracts from Papua New Guinea LNG to Japan, China and Taiwan, which underpinned US$14bn project financing.

Advising EDF on model throughput contract for its proposed LNG import terminal at Dunkerque.

Advising Merrill Lynch Commodities on virtual storage services transaction with Vattenfall backed by storage capacity in Austria and transmission capacity from network operations in Austria/Germany.

Advising on acquisition of equity/pipeline capacity in UK-Belgium Gas Interconnector including standard transportation, override, and standard direct access agreements, and reverse flow capacity enhancements.

Leading team for Shah Deniz Consortium on Shah Deniz 2 and Southern Corridor Projects (including expanding South Caucasus Pipeline, Trans Anatolian Pipeline, and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.

Advising Lender Group on loan to oil & gas company with development assets in Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria and Kurdistan.

Representing Government of Niger on long term oil sale to Chinese buyer as collateral for China Eximbank loan.

Advising on Network Code, Uniform Network Code and Claims Validation issues in Great Britain.

Advising a group of Rough storage customers on obtaining security for their gas in storage from Dynegy Storage Limited.

Advising Statoil on LNG sales agreements from Snøhvit; contract amendments, project delay, ship pooling, contractor default, force majeure, shipping and sales optimization, and price review.
