US SEC appoints new senior advisor for digital assets and innovation

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has created a new position to co-ordinate efforts on the application of securities laws to emerging technologies.

The SEC has announced that Valerie A. Szczepanik has been named Associate Director of the Division of Corporation Finance and Senior Advisor for Digital Assets and Innovation, reporting to division Director Bill Hinman.

In this newly created advisory position, Szczepanik will co-ordinate efforts across all SEC Divisions and Offices regarding the application of US securities laws to emerging digital asset technologies and innovations, including initial coin offerings and cryptocurrencies.
