US House of Representatives says members must declare crypto holdings of more than $1,000

The lower chamber of the US Congress has said that its members, officers and employees must declare any cryptocurrency investments that exceed $1,000.

The Committee on Ethics of the House of Representatives has issued a memorandum, stating that it had determined that cryptocurrencies should be treated as "'other forms of securities' for purposes of the EIGA [Ethics in Government Act] and financial disclosure with respect to individuals who are subject to financial disclosure requirements and who file their reports with the Clerk of the House".
