U.S. Department of Energy Efficiency Standards
Economic growth and increased electricity demand have long gone hand-in-hand. However, as U.S. utilities are well aware, demand for electricity has been flat for a decade, even as the economy has recovered from the Great Recession. Another decade of flat demand is predicted. Energy efficiency standards are a significant part of the explanation for the de-coupling of demand for power and economic growth.
