Targeted Advertising and Consumer Protection in France, Europe, and the U.S.

As the principal means of revenue on the Internet, advertising aims to align with the interests of the consumer. This presents risks in terms of data protection, as targeted advertising relies on the collection of personal data relating to the consumer. The French, European, and U.S. authorities are adopting or recommending measures to protect the consumer. A consensus between these authorities, however, does not yet exist.
