Shale Gas Exploration: European Commission Present the Results of the Consultation During the Stakeholders' Event

In Brussels on 7 June 2013, the European Commission held a stakeholder event to report the outcome of its consultation on unconventional fossil fuels (including shale gas) in the European Union. The consultation, which was addressed to citizens, companies, and other interested parties, as well as public authorities, aimed at gathering views on the benefits and challenges related to the exploration of unconventional fossil fuels, as well as recommendations for potential changes to the applicable regulatory framework. The stakeholder event was primarily organized to present the results of the consultation; however, the commission also used this occasion to gather further views from participants on consequences of hydraulic fracturing, including impacts to the climate, land use, and the environment.
