SEC and CFTC chiefs to appear at US Senate hearing on cryptocurrency

The chairmen of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Jay Clayton, and of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, J. Christopher Giancarlo, are to appear at a US Senate hearing on cryptocurrency on 6 February 2018.

The Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs is to meet in open session, with Clayton and Giancarlo appearing as witnesses, at 10am EST.
The hearing, entitled "Virtual Currencies: The Oversight Role of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission", will be a live webcast.
This hearing is the latest development in a period of heightened scrutiny of cryptocurrencies on the part of both agencies.
