PCORI releases its draft National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda for comparative effectiveness research

Section 6301 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) established the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), an independent non-profit organization, charged with conducting and disseminating comparative clinical effectiveness research to help patients, providers, purchasers, and policy-makers make more informed decisions.1 Among other things, PCORI is required to both “identify national priorities for research” and “establish and update a research project agenda,”2 which “are intended to lay the foundation for a portfolio of comparative clinical effectiveness research that addresses PCORI’s statutory purpose.”
