Importers' liability for defects in construction and manufacture – latest German judgment

Recently, German civil courts have rendered various judgments in product liability cases as to the liability of an importer for design and manufacturing defects. On the one hand, these judgments define importers' potential obligations to implement safety precautions with respect to design or manufacturing defects of the products that they import. On the other hand, there are indications that importers of products from non-EU countries, especially from China, might face further, ongoing obligations.
