Hogan Lovells Africa Newsletter: Issue 3

December 2012

Welcome to the third edition of Hogan Lovells' Africa Newsletter.

In our final newsletter of 2012 we include a range of articles covering relevant news and up to date important legal issues that affect you and your business.

In this edition we look at the key improvements of the revised OHADA Uniform Act on security law, which became effective in 16 African states on 16 May 2011, and came into force earlier this year in the Democratic Republic Of Congo. We also discuss investment treaties and how they benefit investors, using Sierra Leone as a case study. We include an interview regarding issues for foreign investors acquiring properties in Uganda, and an article that analyses the most recent edition of the "Doing Business" survey in relation to Africa, carried out by the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank.

In a roundup of our work in Africa, we provide a summary of our recent African transactions, including our pro bono work with assisting the Libyan National Transitional Council, for which we won Pro Bono Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2012.
