Harmonization of Data Privacy in U.S.-EU Trade Talks

The forthcoming negotiation of a U.S.-EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) -- the largest bilateral free trade agreement ever attempted -- provides a unique opportunity to harmonize the way data flows between the U.S. and Western Europe, and a concomitant opportunity to do the same with data privacy protections. If done successfully, this has the potential to become the role model for the entire world in the handling of these sensitive issues.
