FTC Approves Google/AdMob Transaction

On 21 May 2010 the five Commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted unanimously to approve Google Inc.'s (Google's) proposed acquisition of AdMob Inc. (AdMob) following a six-month Second Request investigation. This high-profile transaction received significant press coverage and attention from various members of Congress. In addition to a press release announcing the decision, the Commissioners took the fairly unusual step of issuing a closing statement to explain their decision. According to the statement, the Commissioners' primary rationale for clearing the deal was the entry of Apple Inc. (Apple) into the relevant market via its acquisition of Quattro Wireless (Quattro), a direct competitor of Google and AdMob.
