FERC eliminates semi-annual gas storage reporting requirements for pipelines

27 January 2012

Energy Alert

On 19 January 2012, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Commission) issued a final rule eliminating the requirement for providers of interstate pipeline and storage services to submit semi-annual gas storage reports. The Commission’s rules required interstate pipelines to file semi-annual storage reports within 30 days of the end of each storage injection/withdrawal season. Because the semi-annual reports became duplicative of other informational posting and reporting requirements, however, the Commission decided to eliminate the semi-annual reporting requirement entirely. As a result of this final rule, interstate pipelines and certain intrastate pipelines providing interstate service will no longer be required to report injection/withdrawal volumes and associated revenues for individual customers. The final rule will become effective 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, likely in late March.
