Data Protection in Spain

Spain is well known for having one of the most restrictive data protection regimes in the European Union. It also has some of the highest penalties and a data protection regulator with a reputation for being fierce. These penalties are not only on paper. They are applied in practice. The above ingredients altogether make a cocktail that is not easy to drink - and sometimes becomes poisonous - for companies operating in Spain. The purpose of this note is to help these companies to meet Spanish requirements on data protection.
