Practice groupIntellectual Property

For more than a decade, Sameer Pai has been working at the confluence of law and technology helping clients, large and small, protect, manage, and monetize their innovations. Sameer uses his knowledge and experience in engineering, intellectual property (IP) law, and privacy policy to meet clients' individual needs and expectations.

Sameer advises clients on issues related to their intellectual property portfolio management and strategy, including the preparation, prosecution, and evaluation of patents. His practice also includes counseling clients during post-grant patent proceedings, IP transactions, and providing patent litigation support. With a background in electrical and computer engineering, Sameer's practice spans a wide range of technical areas in the intellectual property, media, and technology space.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Sameer practiced with the New York and San Diego offices of two international law firms for nearly eight years, was a founder of a venture-backed technology startup, and was a software engineer in the Personal Communications Sector at Motorola Inc.

He helped advise the city of San Francisco on the effective use of public video surveillance with due consideration of privacy, while he conducted on-site audits of public video surveillance programs in some of the nation's largest cities. Sameer has authored and co-authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

During his engineering and law school studies, Sameer conducted research on wireless sensor networks and public policy concerning information privacy. As a researcher at Cornell and at Berkeley Law's Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic, he studied social, legal, technical, and design issues in the public space deployment of wireless sensor networking technology, which forms the basis for the "internet of things."
