Ogechi C. Achuko
As an associate in our Government Contracts group, Ogechi Achuko advises clients on a spectrum of government contracts and grants issues, including on the international, federal, and state level. Ogechi regularly counsels on federal contract compliance issues related to ethics, small business contracting, mergers and acquisitions, and employment.
In the grants arena, her area of focus is helping universities, hospitals, and nonprofit organizations navigate the complex web of compliance issues related to federal awards and sponsored research. Ogechi assists universities with agency investigations, human subjects, animal research protections, research misconduct, and government audits.
As many universities expand their global footprint, Ogechi counsels clients on a wide range of international education and research programs, including in Africa, Asia, South America, and the Middle East. She is experienced in advising on cross-border projects including study abroad, multi-clinical sites research, foreign campuses, foreign sub-awardee contracts, and collaboration agreements.
Ogechi clerked for the Honorable Thomas Rawles Jones, Jr. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia also known as the "Rocket Docket," where she gained practical experience helping manage an extensive criminal and civil docket. She also served as a legal intern for the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.
Advised several universities on federal and nonfederal research operations in Africa and South America related to research programs for HIV/AIDS and cancer.
Challenged and defended government contract awards in bid protests before the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
Drafted local site agreements for a multi-national clinical drug research project.
Led due diligence government contracts review for defense and healthcare companies involving multi-million dollar acquisitions and mergers.
Prepared contracts for international student exchange programs in Africa, Middle East, China, Europe, and South America.
