Shingo has extensive experience in general corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructurings and capital raisings with an emphasis on cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He also regularly advises private companies on matters of corporate law. 

Prior to Hogan Lovells, Shingo was an associate in a leading Japanese local law firm. Shingo was also seconded for 3 years to a Vietnamese local law firm that has strong connections with the Vietnamese government. Shingo worked in Vietnam as a foreign counsel registered with Ministry of Justice in Vietnam.  During his time in Japan and Vietnam, Shingo handled cross-border M&A, international trade, cross-border litigation / arbitration, antitrust cases, international financial cases and natural resources and energy transactions.

Shingo advises Japanese and international clients on their cross-border transactions in and out of Japan and focuses on suggesting practical solutions to minimize risks / get deals done successfully, by using his expansive knowledge of multi-jurisdictional transactions. Shingo has experience advising clients across a number of sectors, including Japanese / foreign government, international organizations, financial institutions, Mega-Shosha, manufacturing, telecommunications, media and IT businesses.

Advising a Japanese listed mechatronics company on certificate of origin requirements under Japan's treaty with China and ASEAN countries.

Advising a leading Japanese apparel and fashion field total solution provider on its joint venture project with Chinese and Taiwanese corporations.

Advising a governmental financial institution on lending for the purpose of making investments in Vietnam through a Cayman Islands vehicle.

Representing Japanese/foreign manufacturers on cartel investigations by the Japan Fair Trade Commission and foreign antitrust authorities from over 15 jurisdictions.

Acting as legal counsel to a Japanese public-private fund on a transaction with a major Vietnamese logistic company group.

Acting as legal counsel to a Japanese incorporated administrative agency on an energy management system project in Vietnam.

Negotiating with government agencies on a Japanese power distribution facility client's expansion plans in Vietnam.

Advising a Japanese survey company on the establishment of an investment company in Vietnam and negotiating on the client's behalf with relevant government agencies.

Assisting a leading Japanese retailer with the acquisition of a liquor license in Vietnam and negotiation with the government agencies in relation thereto.

Providing legal advice on the handling of a defect liability claim under an EPC contract for plant construction.

Carrying out legal due diligence on the acquisition by a Japanese company of a game center operator in Vietnam, researching local casino-related laws.

Assisting with the restructuring and M&A of a number of local Vietnamese entities owned by a leading Japanese listed manufacturer.

Carrying out legal due diligence on the acquisition of interests in a Vietnamese cable television operating company by a Japanese investment company.

Representing a Japanese company as a counsel in both Japanese and Korean courts in relation to an industrial machinery dispute.

Representing a Japanese developer in arbitration proceedings at the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre in relation to a joint venture dispute.

Representing the Vietnamese entity of a Japanese company in negotiations on a compensation claim by leading US software companies for IP rights infringement.

Assisting Japanese financial institutions in forming an alliance with Vietnamese financial institutions and establishment of their own legal entity.

Advising on the operation and application of laws concerning domestic and foreign companies in Vietnam for a Japanese government.

Drafting, advising and providing other support in relation to a syndicated loan from major Japanese banks and foreign banks.
