Thomas Beimers, former Health and Human Services senior counsel joins Hogan Lovells

1 June 2016

MINNEAPOLIS, 1 June 2016 – Hogan Lovells announced today that Thomas Beimers, a former senior attorney at the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG), has joined the firm as a partner in its health practice in Minneapolis.

Following his tenure with HHS, Beimers represented a wide range of health care and life science industry clients in False Claims Act (FCA) cases, government investigations, and other criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings at an international law firm.

At Hogan Lovells, Beimers will continue to advise health care clients on regulatory compliance and health fraud matters. Additionally, he will represent those clients in criminal, civil and administrative proceedings, and assist in conducting internal investigations and providing risk management services. Further, he will counsel clients in developing compliance and risk management plans and negotiating corporate integrity agreements.

"As the federal government continues to enforce healthcare compliance laws aggressively, and pursue FCA cases and other actions against companies that provide services to federal health care programs, Tom’s experience helping clients navigate litigation, compliance, investigations, and regulatory matters at the HHS OIG will provide tremendous value and insight to our clients," said Sheree Kanner, global head of Hogan Lovells' health practice.

Beimers served as senior counsel for administrative and civil remedies in the HHS OIG from 2007 to 2011, where he helped resolve major FCA cases involving off-label marketing, drug pricing, Anti-Kickback Statute violations, and Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement. From 2008 to 2010, he was a special assistant U.S. attorney, serving as a prosecutor for the Justice Department's Medicare Fraud Strike Force in Detroit, Michigan. In that role, Beimers oversaw investigations into violations of criminal health care fraud and related laws.

Beimers earned his B.S. from Macalester College and his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Gerald W. Heaney in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
