Portugal Ratifies Unified Patent Court Agreement

On 6 August 2015 a presidential decree was published announcing Portugal’s ratification of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) Agreement.

On 6 August 2015 a presidential decree was published announcing Portugal’s ratification of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) Agreement.  After depositing the legal instrument with the Council of the European Union on 28 August 2015, Portugal became the eighth country to complete the necessary legal procedures for ratification of the UPC Agreement.

A total of thirteen member states, which must include France, Germany and the UK, need to ratify the Agreement for it to enter into force. To date, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal and Sweden have ratified.
