New London Partner Duo for Hogan Lovells Banking Practice
10 March 2011
LONDON, 10 MARCH 2011 - Hogan Lovells has recruited Robert Fugard and Simon Gwynne as partners in the Banking practice in London. They join the London team just a month after capital markets partner, Denis Dillon. Internationally they follow the recent announcement of a ten-strong capital markets team joining in Frankfurt as well as Stuart Brinkworth and Emil Arca joining in London and New York, respectively. Robert and Simon will join Hogan Lovells International LLP on 1 May 2011.
Robert is currently head of Linklaters’ Asset Finance Practice and co-head of Linklaters’ Transport and Logistics Sector. His practice focuses on big-ticket equipment financing, particularly on aviation, shipping and Islamic finance.
Simon is also a partner at Linklaters, where his practice focuses on asset finance and structured financings involving aircraft, telecommunications equipment, rolling stock, shipping and other large scale assets. Chambers 2010 ranks him as the UK's number one rail finance lawyer.
The two new partners will significantly enhance Hogan Lovells existing asset finance and transport practice, which is one of the widest of any of the leading international law firms. The practice boasts more than 50 lawyers based in Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Asia including several former general counsels of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Hogan Lovells has an unparalleled aviation and aerospace practice, which benefits from extensive commercial, regulatory and tax practices in these areas.
Commenting on the arrival of the new partners, David Hudd, Co-head of Hogan Lovells' Finance group, said:
"We are looking to build on our existing strength in finance in London and other major international financial centres. Attracting a team with the track record and following that Robert and Simon have adds considerable quality and breadth to our London and international team and will, I believe, give Hogan Lovells the top asset finance team in the London market. "
Robert Fugard said:
"Hogan Lovells has a broad banking practice, with strong relationships with both borrowers and lenders. That, combined with the recognised international platform, will allow us to grow a world class international asset finance practice. I am excited by the opportunities Hogan Lovells presents."
Simon Gwynne said:
"I have been particularly impressed with the cultural fit between my practice and the Hogan Lovells partnership and working environment. With that in mind, I believe there are huge opportunities to build the practice, particularly in relation to my own and Hogan Lovells' transport sector clients."
