London and Paris Banking and Trade Finance Teams win 'Deal of the Year' Awards for Transactions in Africa and Eastern Europe
Hogan Lovells' banking and trade finance teams have been recognised by the Global Trade Finance Review (GTR) and the Trade & Forfaiting Review (TFR) for advising on the close of three deals in 2014, winning:
• Two GTR "Deal of the Year" awards for advising on the financing of the Port Autonome d’Abidjan and a pre-export finance facility to Trans-Oil Group
• Two TFR "Deal of the Year" awards for advising on the Trans-Oil transaction and advising African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) on a financing for Eroton
A London-led team advised Afreximbank on a reserve base lending facility to support Eroton's acquisition of OML 18 from Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, Total E&P Nigeria Limited, and Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited. This deal forms part of the strategic divestment of onshore assets by the Shell group.
The London trade finance team also advised Société Générale in relation to a pre-export finance facility to support Trans-Oil group’s commodities purchases (principally of Moldovan origin), storage and processing for sale to export markets.
Port Autonome d’Abidjan
Our Paris team advised Afreximbank in relation to a 200 million-euro syndicated bridge financing facility to enable the port's owners to expand facilities. The Port Autonome d’Abidjan is one of Africa’s busiest ports in terms of volume and a major international trans-shipment and transit traffic hub through which 70 per cent of the foreign trade of hinterland countries passes.
The receipt of high-profile accolades for three of the practice's deals over the last year reflects the strength in depth we are able to offer clients across multiple jurisdictions: advising on complex cross-border deals in challenging markets. Our success further enhances our reputation as a market-leader in trade and export finance.
Our teams were led by David Leggott and Andrew Gamble in London and Olivier Fille-Lambie in Paris. Each was supported by a team of associates from the banking & finance practice.
