Hogan Lovells welcomes Scott Harris as Managing Partner for Australia offices

Australia, 27 November 2017 – International law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that Scott Harris will take over the role of Office Managing Partner for the Australia practice on 1 January 2018. Scott Harris has been with Hogan Lovells in Sydney since August 2016 and leads the firm’s Business, Restructuring and Insolvency team for Australia.

"In keeping with our plans for investing in the market, and our clear philosophy that Australia is a single practice, the aim has always been to unify the management structure at the right time and appoint a single managing partner," said Patrick Sherrington, Regional Managing Partner for Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

He continues: "Tim and Nicky feel that the time is now right to step aside and help introduce a single managing partner structure for Australia. They are very excited to have Scott step into the role and target the next phase of its growth in Australia. Since Hogan Lovells entered the Australian market, Nicky Lester and Tim Lester have spear-headed its growth and helped to assemble an impressive team of partners, associates, and business services staff, creating a strong and exciting platform for the firm in Australia and ensuring it is well placed to grow from strength to strength."

Incoming Office Managing Partner, Scott Harris, says, "Our practice in Australia is strong and has grown tremendously quickly. The work we do and the clients we support reflect the benefits of our truly unique global offering and excellent local expertise and experience, drawing on our strong Asian, European and US presences. I am very excited about the opportunity to help with the further growth of our presence in the market and build on all that we have achieved to date."

Current Joint Office Managing Partners Tim Lester and Nicky Lester will step down as of 31 December 2017 and spend more time developing their respective practices, building on the strong platform that the team in Australia has worked hard together to establish.

"Being a recognized global practice places us ahead of our competitors and we look forward to supporting Scott in the firm's next phase of growth," said Tim Lester.

Before joining Hogan Lovells Sydney office in March, Scott has been practicing for more than 23 years at law firms in both Sydney and London. He spent five years earlier in his career developing his understanding of multi-jurisdictional practice in the firm’s London office on large complex, cross border engagements. As leader of the Hogan Lovells restructuring practice in Australia, servicing local and international financial institutions and investors, Scott has a deep knowledge of the firm’ finance and corporate capabilities, which has underpinned the growth of the Australian practice to date.
