Hogan Lovells supports Magna Carta exhibition in Hong Kong

09 November 2015

HONG KONG, 09 November 2015 – Hogan Lovells is delighted to support the public exhibition in Hong Kong of an original Magna Carta and the only surviving copy of the King's Writ, a letter sent by King John in 1215 announcing the terms of Magna Carta.

Magna Carta established for the first time the principle that everybody in England, including the sovereign, was subject to the rule of law whilst guaranteeing certain fundamental rights such as trial by jury. These principles continue to guide and influence the development of legal systems and democracies around the world.

As part of worldwide 800th anniversary celebrations, the British Consulate-General in Hong Kong has arranged for the Magna Carta to be displayed to the public from the 11th to 14th November at Sotherby's Hong Kong Gallery in One Pacific Place, the same building as Hogan Lovells' Hong Kong office.

A series of discussions focussing on a range of issues relating to Magna Carta and the rule of law in the 21st Century will be held throughout the week.

The panel will feature Hogan Lovells' Hong Kong Partner, Timothy Hill who will discuss the interaction of business and law, specifically the challenges and opportunities that increasing global economic integration present, making reference to Hogan Lovells' recent Rule of Law study, Risk and Return, produced in collaboration with The Bingham Centre, The Investment Treaty Forum and the Economist Intelligence Unit:

For further details relating to the exhibition please see the official press release issued by the British Consulate-General in Hong Kong:
