Hogan Lovells Support Women in Sport Initiative

London, UK 30 January 2014 - Hogan Lovells has teamed up with Coaching for Hope, an innovative charity which taps into the global passion for football and uses professional coaches from the UK to train local youth workers to coach young girls and deliver awareness about the positive effects sport can have in their lives. In South Africa, many girls and young women will experience discrimination in their lives as a result of playing football and other sports.

Hogan Lovells with Coaching for Hope has produced an accessible booklet which provides information to the girls on their rights to play sport and gives advice on how to stay safe.

In celebration of the publication, On Thursday 30 January 2014, Hogan Lovells hosted an event on behalf of Coaching for Hope alongside Rachel Yankey, OBE. The event celebrated the work undertaken by Hogan Lovells and Coaching for Hope in tackling the discrimination of women and girls who play sport.

Elaine Penrose, partner and captain of Hogan Lovells' women's football team recently travelled to South Africa in support of the campaign and witnessed first-hand the sexual discrimination experienced by many young women. On the charity and Hogan Lovells involvement, Elaine said:

"I have seen the challenges young girls and women face in South Africa, especially those who play sport. In the UK women are fortunate enough to have the freedom to play sport and feel safe and respected in doing so. Hogan Lovells is committed to supporting Coaching for Hope and the amazing work they are doing in tackling the discrimination of young girls and women in South Africa."

The publication has been funded by HSBC Bank and supported by the City of Cape Town, nPower and Football for Hope.  It also been endorsed by Banyana Banyana, South Africa's national women's football team.
