Hogan Lovells Strengthens Regional Practice with Keystone Partner Move to Singapore

31 March 2011

SINGAPORE, 31 March 2011 - London-based Capital Markets partner Andrew Carey will relocate to Singapore in April 2011 as an integral part of Hogan Lovells' strategy to further develop the firm's Capital Markets practice in Asia. The move also reflects the expansionist ambitions of the firm's Capital Markets practice globally.

An English-qualified lawyer who has been with Hogan Lovells for over 21 years and has worked in the London, New York and Tokyo offices, Andrew specialises in international securities offerings including corporate debt (both high-yield and investment grade) and equity offerings and asset-backed debt offering.  As well as acting for issuers, originators, underwriters and trustees on securities offerings, he also has experience, particularly in the recent global financial crisis, representing various stakeholders in bond restructurings.  Increasingly over the last few years Andrew's focus has been on emerging markets work.

Andrew is a highly regarded Capital Markets specialist and has been recognised as a leading individual by the main UK legal directories including Legal 500 and Chambers.  His recent representative experience includes advising The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) on its Luxembourg-listed EMTN programme and issues under it and also on a number of stand-alone issues in Africa by, or guaranteed by, Afreximbank;  advising ITV plc on the issue of its 4% convertible bonds and on its cash and new notes exchange offer to holders of certain other unsecured notes; advising The Bank of New York Mellon and the receivers of SIV Portfolio plc (in receivership) (formerly Cheyne Finance), on a US$7 billion structured investment vehicle ("SIV"); and SABMiller plc on its US$5 billion EMTN programme.

Working closely with Hong Kong and Tokyo-based Capital Markets partner Philip Hyde, Andrew will look to build on the progress that the Hogan Lovells' Capital Markets teams in those cities have already made in establishing a respected Capital Markets practice in the region.  The regional practice will provide clients with one of the few genuinely international Capital Markets practices with a dedicated and integrated presence in each major financial hub across Asia.

Commenting on the move, Andrew said:

"I am hugely looking forward to joining an already vibrant Capital Markets practice in Asia and to building on the broad finance practice that the firm has there.  Having worked for many years with the Singapore Capital Markets team, I believe we have a fantastic offering for our clients in the region."

Crispin Rapinet, Regional Managing Partner, Asia and Middle East, said:

Our goal is to further develop the firm's market leading Capital Markets practice for our clients across Asia.  This requires dedicated teams in each of Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong.  Andrew's move to Singapore, combined with our existing capabilities in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo, is the strategic keystone towards achieving that goal.
Andrew is hugely respected in the field.  He has an invaluable wealth of international capital markets experience to bring to the region and more importantly for the direct benefit of our institutional clients in this vital and growing market."

More broadly, Andrew's move will add further breadth and depth to Hogan Lovells' award-winning Finance practice in Singapore.  Andrew will join Project Finance partners James Harris and Alex Wong, Private Equity partner Stephanie Keen and Corporate partner Brad Roach, bolstering one of the leading international transactional practices in the city-state.
