Hogan Lovells shows significant growth in recognition of individual lawyers in Legal 500 UK rankings

London, 31 October 2017 – Hogan Lovells announced today that the firm has more than doubled its number of recommended individuals included in the Legal 500 UK rankings, from 107 in 2016 to 223 in 2017.

Overall, the 2017 rankings consolidated the firm’s position among its peers in the UK and its reputation for sound advice across a broad range of sectors and practices. The Legal 500 is one of the world’s leading legal resources, ranking thousands of firms and individuals from the legal profession. It develops its rankings based on feedback from legal peers and from its own research into deals and outcomes. 

In the latest rankings, Hogan Lovells lawyers achieved major growth in recognition as individual practitioners. Most notable was the performance of Hogan Lovells in several new categories, reflecting the investment the firm has made in its Risk Advisory and TMT practices. Six lawyers were recommended in Risk Advisory – Brexit, with another six achieving recommendation in Risk Advisory – Corporate Governance. Partner Andrew Pearson was singled out as a Leading Individual in the latter category. 

Four UK lawyers were also recommended in the Risk Advisory – Data Protection, Privacy, and Cybersecurity category, including partners Eduardo Ustaran and Crispin Rapinet, both of whom were recognized as Leading Individuals. The rankings also highlighted Hogan Lovells’ investment in the future of the legal profession. A total of 14 lawyers were recognized as Next Generation Lawyers – 14 more than in 2016 – including Nathan Sherlock in Insurance – Professional Negligence, and Paul Tonkin, in Real Estate – Property Litigation.

As a firm, Hogan Lovells achieved the top Band 1 ranking in 21 practices, including Trade Finance, Commercial Property Development. Property Litigation and Pensions Dispute Resolution. The firm was also awarded Band 1 status in several new Risk Advisory categories, including Brexit, Corporate Governance, Data Protection and Cybersecurity, and Regulatory Investigations and Corporate Crime. It was also awarded Band 1 status in another new category in the TMT sector, Fintech.

In total the firm achieved recognition in 21 Band 1 categories, 32 in Band 2, 11 in Band 3, and 7 in Band 4. The totals show steady and continued improvement over the last three years. A full list of Hogan Lovells’ recognition in the 2017 Legal 500 is available here.
