Hogan Lovells Recruits Arbitration Partner in Paris

LONDON, 19 JUNE 2012 - Hogan Lovells continues to expand its global International Arbitration practice with the recruitment in Paris of new partner Carmen Nuñez-Lagos. Carmen was previously practicing international arbitration at Bredin Prat and is a former partner of the Spanish law boutique Bernardo Cremades y Asociados in Madrid.  She has also held the position of Head Legal Counsel at a major Spanish telecom company, Auna (now France Telecom). She joins the firm today, Friday 15 June, together with one associate from another firm.

Carmen Nuñez-Lagos is the third addition to the International Arbitration practice in Paris following Jean-Georges Betto in 2008 and Laurent Gouiffès in 2009.  Carmen brings an additional set of skills as her practice focuses on Spanish speaking arbitration proceedings involving clients from Spain or Latin America. Her team will constitute a new pillar of the Spanish speaking practice of Hogan Lovells, led from the Madrid and Miami offices.

Carmen is dually qualified in Spain and in France and speaks Spanish, French, English and Italian fluently. She specialises in both commercial and investment international arbitrations and acts on behalf of several States and industrial groups with regard to arbitration under the ICC, LCIA and ICSID.

She is recognised in the Paris market and has been appointed as President of the French Chapter of the Spanish Arbitration Club and as a member of the drafting committee of the ICC Task Force on Arbitrations involving States.

The 15-lawyer International Arbitration practice of the Paris office is now led by three partners and one counsel. The team members are admitted in Paris, New York, London and Madrid.

Jean-Georges Betto and Laurent Gouiffès, partners in the Paris International arbitration practice said: "Carmen is a talented lawyer. She is an excellent fit for our practice and will bring with her a new set of skills. This recruitment confirms the strong expansion of the International Arbitration practice in Paris built on the confidence of our clients in the defense, construction and energy sectors and the investment arbitration practice".

Carmen Nuñez-Lagos added: "Hogan Lovells is rightly respected in the industry for its reputation for large scale complex international commercial and investment arbitrations so the team is the ideal fit for me."

Michael Davison, co-head of the International Arbitration practice at Hogan Lovells, said: "Carmen is a great hire for us – both in Paris, and also for the arbitration team globally. She has acted on more than 70 international arbitrations and she is fluent in Spanish, French, English and Italian and has acted in proceedings involving all four languages.  She is a very welcome addition to the team."

Daniel Gonzalez, co-head of the International Arbitration practice at Hogan Lovells said: "Carmen is an excellent addition to our International Arbitration practice in Paris and worldwide, as her practice and experience in Spain, Paris and elsewhere will fit very well with our multi-jurisdictional IA practice at Hogan Lovells."
