Hogan Lovells Recognised by FT Innovative Lawyers Awards 2012
08 October 2012
LONDON, 8 October 2012 – Hogan Lovells has climbed two places in this year's Financial Times Most Innovative European Law Firms table and ranked as 'highly commended' in two categories at the FT Innovative Lawyer Awards.
The firm was ranked as 16th in this year's most innovative law firms table which is based on the number of standout, highly commended and commended entries at the FT Innovative Lawyer Awards.
Traditionally, The FT also puts together a report to coincide with the annual awards ceremony.
The firm was ranked as 'highly commended' in the Most Innovative Firms in Corporate Law category for its work on the financing for Duke Street's acquisition of Parabis. Hogan Lovells advised Ares Capital, Lloyds TSB, RBS and Santander on the financing of the deal – which has been hailed a 'first' in the legal sector.
Hogan Lovells was also 'highly commended' in the Most Innovative Law Firms in Dispute Resolution category for our work for BTA Bank in the biggest fraud case ever seen by the English courts. Hogan Lovells acts for BTA Bank against the former chairman Mukhtar Ablyazov.
The firm was also 'commended' in two categories - for our work for Morrisons and Safeway to overhaul the 'UK's competition law regulatory architecture' by successfully overturning the Office of Fair Trading's decision to impose record fines of £225 million for allegedly fixing the retail price of tobacco products; and for our pensions litigation work for the Pilots' National Pension Fund, which concerned various issues addressing liability for the circa £300 million deficit in the Pilots' National Pension Fund.
Hogan Lovells' client Sharaz Gill, head of patents and licensing at HTC Europe, who was nominated by the firm, was also shortlisted for an award (Most Innovative European In-House Lawyer) and mentioned in the report for his management of HTC's patent licensing and litigation operations.
