Hogan Lovells' Michael Silver Named Global M&A Lawyer of the Year by Global M&A Network; Firm Recognized for Its Role in Two Deal of the Year Winners

NEW YORK, 3 April 2015 – Hogan Lovells is proud to announce that New York Corporate partner and Global Board member Michael Silver was named Global M&A Lawyer of the Year by the Global M&A Network. Silver received the award at the Global M&A Network’s 7th Annual Atlas Awards on 31 March in New York City.

Silver was recognized for his role in leading Hogan Lovells deal teams on the following matters:

  • Advised long-time client Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) in connection with its US$6 billion acquisition of Covance Inc., creating the world’s leading healthcare diagnostics company.
  • Represented WSP Global in connection with its acquisition for US$1.31 billion of Parsons Brinckerhoff, the professional services division of international infrastructure group Balfour Beatty.
  • Counseled LabCorp on its US$85 million acquisition of LipoScience, Inc. a provider of specialized cardiovascular diagnostic laboratory tests based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology.

The WSP Global matter was awarded the “Engineering and Services” Deal of the Year. The Hogan Lovells Corporate team advising on this transaction was led by Silver, and included New York partner Derek Meilman, London partner Richard Ufland and New York associates Annette Boglev and Jenna Watson.

Additionally, Hogan Lovells was recognized for its role in the winner of the “Global Corporate M&A Deal of the Year – $20 billion plus”, which went to the Vodafone sale of its stake in Verizon Wireless to Verizon Communications. The Hogan Lovells team, which was led by Washington, D.C. partners Michele Farquhar and Ari Fitzgerald, handled the communications regulatory work for Vodafone. The transaction, valued at US$130 billion, is the third largest M&A deal in history.
