Hogan Lovells' It's Not Just Peanuts Campaign Wins Legal Business Award

10 February 2012

LONDON, 10 February 2012 – Hogan Lovells' innovative It's Not Just Peanuts campaign, developed on behalf of the Access to Justice Foundation, has been named CSR Programme of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2012.

The campaign encourages law firms to release their dormant client funds and donate them to the Access to Justice Foundation (AJF). So far the Attorney General and Lord Chief Justice have both backed the scheme that has already freed up more than £75,000 for use by the AJF to provide legal support and assistance to those not eligible for legal aid or other assistance.

The Hogan Lovells team that developed the campaign included members of the firm's finance department as well as marketing, design and PR specialists working alongside pro bono manager Yasmin Waljee.

Hogan Lovells' International Pro Bono Manager Yasmin Waljee said:

"We are thrilled to get this award as it highlights the effort to get law firms across the country to donate amounts of money of less than £50 that they have in their client account and where they cannot trace the owners. Through a very simple process the money can be donated to the Access to Justice Foundation which then distributes the funds to support free legal advice across the UK."

An information pack for law firms can be downloaded from www.ATJF.org.uk/clientbalances   More information on the campaign can be obtained from: clientbalances@ATJF.org.uk

The London Legal Support Trust provides grant funding to support pro bono and advice agencies which provide free legal help to the public when they cannot afford it but are not eligible for legal aid.  The Trust is part of a network of seven regional trusts together with the Access to Justice Foundation, a national charity established in 2008 by the Law Society, Bar Council, ILEX and Advice Services Alliance. The Foundation will distribute funds raised by Its Not Just Peanuts scheme through the regional trusts and national pro bono organisations.

Hogan Lovells was also shortlisted in Regulatory Team of the Year category for our work advising the National Transitional Council on the release of 2.1bn Libyan Dinar frozen by the British government.
