  • European Waste Deal of the Year – Belgrade Energy from Waste: Hogan Lovells advised International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, and its client, the City of Belgrade, in connection with a landmark public-private partnership project to radically change and update the City’s existing waste management practices, provide a range of new cutting-edge waste management and treatment facilities and enhance the City's renewable power and heat generation capacity. This is the first project of its kind in Serbia, with significant implications for the country's accession to the EU. This deal was also awarded Project Finance deal of the Year at the IFLR Europe Awards 2020.
  • European Portfolio Refinancing Deal of the Year – Project Keane Refinancing: Hogan Lovells advised the lenders, Allied Irish Banks, Banco Sabadell, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Export Development Canada and Natixis, to Brookfield Renewable on the €346m portfolio project financing of 17 separate onshore wind farms located across the Republic of Ireland, with a total installed capacity of over 360MW.
  • European Transport Deal of the Year – Silvertown tunnel: Hogan Lovells advised the lenders (15 banks, institutional lenders and ECAs) to the Macquarie, SK, Cintra, Aberdeen and BAM consortium on the financing of the Silvertown tunnel project in London. Silvertown Tunnel is the first major transport investment in East London in the last 30 years and designated as a "nationally significant infrastructure project" by the UK Government.
  • African Renewables Deal of the Year – Kahone and Toube Solar: Hogan Lovells advised the sponsors in relation to the financing of two solar PV plants in Senegal being developed under the IFC's Scaling Solar programme.

  • Asia Pacific Telecoms Deal of the Year - Kacific: Hogan Lovells advised the lending group comprised of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), GuarantCo, and Munich Re, on the US$160 million satellite project financing of the Asia-Pacific Remote Broadband Internet Satellite Project (Kacific1) which will provide mobile backhaul and broadband internet to remote areas in 25 nations throughout South East Asia and the Pacific Islands.

  • MENA Water Deal of the Year - Taweelah Independent Water Producer (IWP) Project: Hogan Lovells advised ACWA Power on a US$1.2bn Taweelah Independent Water Producer (IWP) Project. The Taweelah desalination IWP will be developed on a build, own and operate basis and have a production capacity of 200 million gallons per day of potable water, making it the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in the world.
  • Latin America Water Deal of the Year - BRK Ambiental: Hogan Lovells advised IDB Invest on the project financing of a wastewater treatment project in northern Brazil. The project, sponsored by BRK Ambiental, is the largest public-private partnership in Brazil and will expand and improve the wastewater infrastructure in 15 municipalities in the metropolitan region and Recife. The project was also awarded "Water Treatment Financing of Year" at the 2019 LatinFinance Project & Infrastructure Finance Awards.
  • Latin America Telecoms Deal of the Year – Internet Para Todos: Hogan Lovells advised Facebook as sponsor on the Internet Para Todos project, which aims to bring mobile broadband to remote populations in Peru where conventional deployment is not economically feasible. The project has already connected 2,000 communities located in remote areas in Peru, benefiting around 600,000 people.
