Hogan Lovells Hosts Patents Conference

25 September 2014

The Hogan Lovells IP team hosted its inaugural Patents Conference on 16 September 2014.

The Hogan Lovells IP team hosted its inaugural Patents Conference on 16 September 2014.

The seminar kicked off with a panel discussion on the UPC between representatives from the telecommunications, electronics and pharmaceutical industries. The panel represented companies with large patent portfolios, who are well-versed in the intricacies of the existing European patent litigation landscape.

The panel made some interesting comments on various features of the UPC, such as whether the bifurcated system is likely to affect their approach to enforcing and defending patent infringement actions.

They also gave us some insight into how they thought SMEs and NPEs might approach patenting and litigating under the new regime. We will set out some of those comments (naturally on a no-names basis!) in a further blog post soon.  Watch this space.
