Hogan Lovells Expands its Investment Funds Practice

09 February 2016

Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce the appointment of Maarten Schellingerhout into its Global Investment Funds Practice.
Maarten Schellingerhout, an English and Dutch law qualified funds lawyer, will be based in Amsterdam. Maarten joins from PGGM Investments (managing c. €200bn of assets for inter alia PFZW, the second largest Dutch pension fund). At Hogan Lovells, he will advise managers and (institutional) investors on investment management including fund formation, primary and secondary fund investments, co-investments and (re)structurings with a particular focus on the alternative asset classes private equity, infrastructure and private real estate.

Nicholas Holman (Co-Head of the Global Investment Funds Practice) commented:
"We are delighted that Maarten has joined our funds team. We are seeing a trend in the Dutch pension fund industry towards higher net-of-cost returns and increased control of investments. Maarten is an experienced funds lawyer with an excellent knowledge of the Dutch institutional investment market across different alternative asset classes; I am sure that our GP and LP funds clients will benefit from his core funds expertise in this changing pension fund market environment in the Netherlands."

Victor de Vlaam (Private Equity Group - Benelux) commented: "Maarten's arrival reflects the increasing allocation of our investor clients to alternative asset classes. The Dutch legal, tax and regulatory framework is very advantageous for structuring private investment funds and we have seen a steady increase in financial sponsors and asset managers setting up their fund structures in the Netherlands."
