Hogan Lovells Earns Law360 2010 “Energy Group of the Year” as One of Five Elite Groups Recognized

10 February 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C., 10 February 2011 – Hogan Lovells announced that it has been named one of the five leading energy legal practices in 2010 by Law360. A panel of four editors selected the winners based on the number of high-profile wins each firm had in litigation, in addition to other factors like the size, number and complexity of deals the group worked on in 2010.

The winners helped a range of companies secure victories and strike noteworthy agreements in oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, renewable energy, and other fields. Hogan Lovells is distinct in that its energy practice is by far the most comprehensive because, as Law360 editors note, it touches almost every sector of the energy industry.

"We are proud to be chosen by Law360 as one of the leading energy practices in the world," said Kevin Lipson, the Practice Group Director, who represents electric and natural gas companies in major enforcement matters that come before the FERC and the CFTC. "Our global team has experience in every sector of the industry, and the breadth and scope of the practice allows us to serve clients virtually anywhere in the world. It's a compelling mix, and the foundation for our continued success."

The Hogan Lovells Energy Group works in the natural gas, trading, electricity, and nuclear sectors. The nuclear sector was previously dominated by just three other law firms. Partners specifically mentioned in the Law360 accolade include Kevin Lipson, who represents a major interstate natural gas pipeline and several of its affiliated companies, Susan Court and Lee Alexander, who have extensive experience with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations, and Catherine Stetson, an appellate lawyer who argued a major case for a pipeline client. Hogan Lovells' Energy Group consists of approximately 250 lawyers in 40 offices worldwide.
