LONDON AND PARIS, 23 June 2011 – An international team of cyclists from Hogan Lovells, the global legal practice, are riding The London-Paris 2011. The 550km tour starts today, Thursday 23 June, at Hampton Court in London and finishes on Saturday 25 June, at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The team's fundraising page can be found at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/HoganlovellsL2P.
With just 350 riders, The London-Paris is known as "THE professional cycling event for amateur cyclists". It is the closest the amateur rider can get to the Tour de France experience.
The London-Paris also regularly attracts “celebrity” riders, with this year’s participants including the former Formula 1 World Champion Nigel Mansell, former England Rugby Captain Will Carling, Tour de France winner Stephen Roche and former England professional footballers, now TV commentators, Lee Dixon and Mark Bright.
The Hogan Lovells team comprises London partner Rod Freeman as captain, London senior associate Tom Astle; London partner Andrew Briggs; Co-CEO Warren Gorrell; Munich partner Detlef Hass; Litigation, Arbitration & Employment Co-Head Stephen Immelt; Americas Regional Managing Partner Dennis Tracey; and Amsterdam associate Jeroen Wiercx. Clients Rutger Oldenhuis and Mimi Tjoeng from Shimano Europe and Steven Cohen from Anschutz Investment Group are also riding as part of the Hogan Lovells/ Shimano team.
The Hogan Lovells team is riding in support of Action Against Hunger/ACF International and the Geoff Thomas Foundation (Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research), the charities supported through the global Hogan Lovells Touch initiative.
Warren Gorrell said:
"We are excited to have secured a place for this exclusive and prestigious event, which, though hard work, will be a fantastic bonding experience for our cross-border team and a great opportunity to raise money for these deserving charities."
