Hogan Lovells counsel Tao Leung named among Daily Journal's Top Labor & Employment Lawyers
Los Angeles, 11 July 2019 – Hogan Lovells counsel Tao Leung has been named to the Daily Journal's prestigious list of the Top Labor & Employment Lawyers in California.
As the head of the firm's California Labor and Employment practice, Leung handles all aspects of California and federal employment law. He has successfully represented employers in labor and employment litigation, including wage and hour class actions, discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, harassment, misappropriation of trade secrets, and breach of contract matters.
The Daily Journal recognized Leung for his deal work, noting his success as lead employment counsel in software maker Adobe Inc.'s US$4.75 billion acquisition of Marketo Inc. and his role in Edenred SA's US$600 million acquisition of Corporate Spending Innovations.
Another important part of Leung's practice is his participation in seminars to inform company executives of developments in employment law. A particularly important development over the past year centers on the "Weinstein clauses," which stem from the #MeToo movement. Weinstein clauses, Leung explained to the Daily Journal, assure buyers that key leaders of the target company have not been accused of misconduct, enabling buyers to make a more informed decision when evaluating the acquired company's risk profile and work environment.
In honoring Leung with this recognition, the Daily Journal also highlighted his representation of former Los Angeles fire marshal John N. Vidovich in a whistleblower retaliation suit (Vidovich v. City of Los Angeles), a case which highlighted his ability to switch roles by "putting on a plaintiff's hat for a change." The L.A. City Council voted to settle the matter for $800,000 after Leung and his team defeated the city's summary judgment motion.
