Hogan Lovells Cements Greater China IP Dominance with Lateral Hire Trio

Hong Kong, 2 March 2015 - Hogan Lovells has announced that partners Alan Chiu and Eugene Low have joined their IP practice today, along with seasoned consultant Kenny Wong. They were all previously with Mayer Brown JSM and will be based in Hong Kong.

Hogan Lovells is recognised as having the leading full spectrum IP practice in Greater China with over 40 IP lawyers across Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, including leading partners Deanna Wong, Henry Wheare, Katie Feng, Skip Fisher and Yan Rae.

Alan is an experienced IP litigator and handles the full spectrum of contentious and advisory intellectual property work in both Hong Kong and China, ranging from complex litigation to IP due diligence, licensing, defamation and privacy. Alan is particularly experienced in managing anti-counterfeiting portfolios and coordinating Customs seizure programmes for well-known brands in the Greater China Region. He has also handled a number of headline litigation in Hong Kong involving family disputes with high-worth IP assets. With a computer forensic background he also advises on domain names, social media issues, computer security, software and cloud contracts, etc. He currently serves as a member of the China Subcommittee of the INTA Anticounterfeiting Committee and a member of the Technology Committee of the Hong Kong Law Society. He is an accredited mediator and has been appointed Adjunct Professor of Law by the Hong Kong Shue Yan University.

Eugene is likewise an all-rounded IP practitioner with an impressive track record of contentious and advisory work experience in Hong Kong and China. Apart from being an experienced IP litigator, Eugene also advises on an interesting range of subjects including gaming laws, technology licensing and disputes, copyright clearance projects, and various types of contracts and projects for the sports and entertainment sectors. Eugene also advises extensively on data privacy, trade descriptions, consumer protection and advertising laws, and is experienced in advising clients in handling customer complaints and investigations by regulatory authorities. He is an accredited mediator, a member of the INTA China Bulletin Committee and also serves as a panellist for the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration.

Kenny has an excellent reputation with over 26 years' experience, including over 15 years as the Head of Mayer Brown JSM's IP/IT practice in Asia. His practice covers the full scope of contentious and commercial IP work, including franchise law and an enviable niche entertainment practice. Kenny is currently the Chairman of the IP Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong, member of the INTA Publications Committee and an Adjunct Associate professor at the University of Hong Kong.
