Hogan Lovells builds Birmingham real estate sector team with first construction hire

Hogan Lovells has hired its first dedicated construction lawyer in Birmingham. Associate Rebecca Storer joins this month from Squire Patton Boggs as the firm further bolsters its growing real estate practice in the Midland capital. Hogan Lovells has a strong presence in the Birmingham real estate market, advising on some of the city's most prestigious developments including Snow Hill and Paradise Circus.

Rebecca's hire is the latest in a period of continued investment in the Birmingham real estate sector team, following the hire of associate Karolina Stein into the real estate finance team in July, and senior associates Mohammed Alam and Saad Amjad, and associate Anna Crabbe all in the real estate team this year. Since opening in December 2014 Hogan Lovells' Birmingham office lawyer headcount has increased five-fold in size, from eight to 33 lawyers, including four trainees, plus seven permanent paralegals.

Rebecca studied law at the University of Birmingham before training and qualifying at Squires. Matters on which she has advised include a developer on a phased mixed use development in Wembley; an international automotive manufacturer on a contract to design and build a new automotive production facility in the West Midlands for the production of electric vehicles; a multi-phased residential development in Leeds; and on the carbon energy fund agreement.

Commenting on Rebecca's hire UK Construction Group Manager Gillian Thomas said:

"Our clients operate in a range of locations across the UK – including Birmingham. Whilst attracting work from "local" businesses was not a driver for the opening of our Birmingham office, some of our work naturally has a local focus such as for our banking clients who are present in Birmingham, and the role our real estate and construction and engineering teams have played in major Birmingham projects including advising Paradise Circus Limited Partnership on the development of Paradise Circus and M&G on Snow Hill. During the time we have been here it has become clear that there is demand and indeed opportunity to expand our on the ground construction and engineering team to support our work in the real estate, infrastructure and energy sectors.  Rebecca will work closely with colleagues in London providing a seamless service to clients, wherever they are located."

Head of the Birmingham office and Planning partner Michael Gallimore added:

"The hire of Rebecca reinforces our commitment to Birmingham. We have worked hard to achieve true integration between the Birmingham and London teams and that is very much evidenced by the close collaboration between both offices on projects and transactions. Four years into the life of our Birmingham office we are in no doubt that we made absolutely the right choice when deciding on Birmingham as the location for our second UK office. With new infrastructure, HS2, new developments, cultural facilities and of course the Commonwealth Games there is a very strong sense within the local community that "this is Birmingham's time". We are proud to be part of that community and to be investing in the City."
