Hogan Lovells advises fibre network operator goetel GmbH in relation to a EUR 345 million debt financing

Press releases | 27 January 2022

Led by partner Dr. Carla Luh, international law firm advised the Göttingen-based optical fibre company goetel GmbH in relation to a loan financing of EUR 345 million. The facilities under the loan agreement were provided by an international syndicate of seven banks.

goetel plans to use the funding together with equity provided by their shareholder Basalt Infrastructure Partners III to connect about 250,000 households to their fibre network within the next three years. In addition to the refinancing of existing liabilities, the new funding serves in particular to finance the fibre network roll-out in rural areas of Germany. In order to support further growth plans of the goetel group, the financing provides flexible funding, for example, the amount of the facilities can be increased by an additional EUR 200 million upon request of goetel, provided certain conditions are satisfied.

Financial advisor was Macquarie Capital.

Carla Luh, Head of Finance Germany, states:

"We are delighted to have successfully advised our client in a record time on this financing which is an important milestone for the further fibre network roll-out."

Hogan Lovells’s German corporate and finance practice has a market leading track record in fibre deals, having advised on more than a dozen investments, built-outs and financings in the German fibre sector since the beginning of the pandemic.
