Hogan Lovells advises ABB on a major contract for the transmission of wind power from the North Sea
Led by Hamburg partner Dr. Christian Knütel international law firm Hogan Lovells has advised the global technology group ABB on the drafting and negotiation of a subcontractor agreement with a consortium of Aibel AS and Keppel Fels Ltd.
In May 2019, the consortium Aibel AS/Keppel Fels Ltd. was commissioned by TenneT to design, build and install the offshore and onshore converter stations including the associated HVDC technology for the DolWin5 offshore grid connection project.
As subcontractor of the consortium, ABB will supply the HVDC technology. The order to ABB comprises the equipping of the offshore converter platform in the North Sea with the HVDC technology as well as the turnkey delivery of the onshore converter station in Emden, in the federal state of Lower Saxony.
As one of the leading power transmission system operators in Europe with activities in Germany and the Netherlands, TenneT is responsible for the grid connection of the offshore wind farms in the German part of the North Sea.
Since 2010, Hogan Lovells has regularly advised ABB in all grid connection projects in Germany.
