Hogan Lovells Advises Hawksford on Trustcorp Jersey Limited Acquisition

27 January 2012

LONDON, 27 January 2012 - Hogan Lovells has advised long-standing clients Hawksford International and Dunedin on the acquisition of trust and corporate services provider Trustcorp Jersey Limited, which completed on 25 January 2012 for an undisclosed sum.

Hawksford is a leading independent wealth structuring company specialising in preserving and enhancing wealth, established in October 2008 following a management buyout of Rathbone Trust Company Jersey Limited, backed by UK private equity company Dunedin, on which Hogan Lovells also advised. Hogan Lovells advised Dunedin, the UK mid-market private equity house, on the management buy-out of Rathbone International, the Jersey based offshore trust operations of Rathbone Brothers, a leading provider of fund and wealth management services for private investors and trustees.  The business was immediately renamed Hawksford International following the deal. Hawksford designs, establishes and administers trust, foundations, family offices and companies of high net worth individuals and corporate clients.

The acquisition forms a significant part of the company’s growth strategy and follows its recent expansion into the Middle East, another transaction on which Hogan Lovells advised in August 2011, when it acquired Swiss firm L-S&S GmbH, a boutique private client law firm founded in Zurich which provides advice on wealth planning and structuring, using international and offshore trusts, private trust companies and other asset-holding structures.

The Hogan Lovells team advising Hawksford and Dunedin was led by Co-Head of private equity Alan Greenough, supported by associate Joanne Roberts and trainee Laurence Dace.

Commenting on the transaction, Alan said:

"This is a significant deal in the wealth management sector. This acquisition will help Hawksford International grow its services and international reach to meet the demands for expertise in key jurisdictions such as the Middle East, where Trustcorp Jersey Limited has an extensive client base."
