Going Public – Privacy Pioneer Harriet Pearson Celebrated as Most Innovative Lawyer by the FT

Hogan Lovells partner Harriet Pearson has been awarded the top accolade in the FT North America Innovative Lawyer Awards 2016

Harriet, head of the global law firm's cybersecurity practice, was named overall winner of one of the most highly-recognized legal rankings in the U.S. at a ceremony in New York's iconic Public Library last night (5th December).

Harriet Pearson said:

"I am honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award.

"I am extremely proud of the groundbreaking work of our market-leading cybersecurity team, both here in the U.S. and around the world.

"With cybersecurity a top business concern, our global team is focused where business leaders are focused – on practical and comprehensive solutions to a pervasive, complex and cutting-edge issue."

Dubbed "First Lady of Privacy" by one legal publication, Harriet Pearson is an internationally-recognized corporate data privacy and cybersecurity pioneer. She joined Hogan Lovells in 2012 from IBM, where she served as Vice President Security Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer.

Harriet advises companies in multiple industries on cybersecurity and data privacy governance and compliance; incident response; investigations and enforcement; cross-border data transfers; and legislative, regulatory, and self-regulatory processes.

The FT's special report commented that:

"The overall winner personifies the multidisciplinary professional that clients say they need.

"Harriet Pearson boasts an impressive 20-year record as a lawyer, entrepreneur and forward thinker. It is her intellectual curiosity and ability to spot the “next big thing” that led to her award as this year’s most innovative individual lawyer. She made cyber issues her topic before business was even aware of the risk."

Hogan Lovells was further recognized by the FT ranking:

  • Second most innovative law firm in North America overall
  • Highly Commended in the Enabling clients to innovate category for our Unmanned Aerial Systems work
  • Highly Commended in the Innovation in Social Responsibility: Projects category for the first off-grid solar securitization in Africa.
  • Highly Commended in the Strategy and changing behaviors category for a firm-wide communications transformation initiative
  • Commended in three additional categories for bringing to bear our U.S. appellate experience on a high-stakes Internet freedom of speech case in France; structuring a radio spectrum regulatory approach to enable safe and effective next-generation railroad transport; and for creating a customized learning program for associate attorneys that integrates online and in-person experiences.

Hogan Lovells is the only law firm in the world to have been ranked in the top ten in all three of the FT's Innovative Lawyer reports (in Europe, North America, and Asia).
