The American Lawyer</em> Names Hogan Lovells Partner “Lifetime Achiever”
03 September 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C., 3 September 2010 – Hogan Lovells Washington, D.C. office partner Joseph “Joe” Bell has been named a “Lifetime Achiever” by The American Lawyer in the September 2010 issue. A member of the Energy practice in the Hogan Lovells US LLP, Bell met the "standards for exemplary public service and outstanding professional services" by putting his civic duties at the core of his professional work.
Bell’s passion for pro bono work stemmed from his energy practice in the 1980s. Negotiating contracts and implementing assistance projects for commercial clients in oil-supplying countries led to a series of pro bono assignments for governments in emerging nations. Bell has worked since in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East on issues of transparency and anti-corruption for nations rich in natural resources but struggling with poverty. Bell, together with other Hogan Lovells and International Senior Lawyers Project lawyers, is assisting the government of Liberia in the negotiation of the major mineral and agricultural contracts and advising with respect to fiscal policies critical to the future economic development of the country.
Each year, The American Lawyer honors distinctive careers and public service through its Am Law Lifetime Achievement Awards. This year’s awards recipients will be honored at a gala dinner on 27 October in New York City.
