Soumitro is a highly experienced international banking and finance lawyer based in London. In his professional career, spanning more than a decade, he has worked in London, Singapore and Mumbai. His practice focuses on all aspects of banking and finance transactions including leveraged and acquisition financings, corporate and event-driven financings, margin loans and equity-based financings, insurance and regulated lending as well as emerging market transactions. He has advised leading banks, debt funds, sponsors and corporates.

Soumitro is particularly focussed on leverage finance including senior, second liens, mezzanine, PIK and unitranche/super senior structures. He is also a key member of the firm's India practice, having spent several years working in Asia. He is dual-qualified in England & Wales and India. Soumitro has also been on secondment to the loan markets team of a leading UK bank.

His recent experience includes advising a group of debt funds on a dividend recapitalisation structured through a French law bond issuance, the lenders on Phoenix's £ 935million acquisition of Abbey Life and the lenders on Phoenix's £375million acquisition of AXA Wealth and Sun Life.

Advised the lenders on Phoenix's £935million acquisition of Abbey Life.

Advised a syndicate of 27 banks on a $1.5 billion ECB by one of India's leading conglomerates.

Advised a syndicate of banks on the EUR1.3 billion and $920 million buy-out of ConvaTec by Nordic Capital and Avista Capital Partners.

Advised COFACE, ONDD and Hermes on a project financing for Fortescue Metals Group.

Advised Invista SICAF on its EUR220 million senior and mezzanine financing.

Advised JP Morgan on a EUR105 million margin loan collateralised over German listed shares.

Advised Sahaviriya Steel on its $600 million and THB23.9 billion financing relating to the acquisition of Teeside Cast Products from Tata Steel, UK.

Advised the lenders on Phoenix's £375million acquisition of AXA Wealth and Sun Life.
