Carolina Machado represents international clients on large and complex arbitration proceedings, mainly in the energy and construction sectors. She has established a solid background in international arbitration that includes representing clients on internal investigations and compliance matters.

Carolina has worked in ICC, LCIA, DIS, ICSID, and UNCITRAL disputes for clients based in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. She also represents several Latin American clients on compliance matters and FCPA investigations.

Carolina has an international background, having worked as a foreign lawyer at two major British firms in London and Paris. Her background and language skills allow her to seamlessly guide clients in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. She has also counseled for the International Division of the American Arbitration Association (ICDR) and interned for the Honorable Richard M. Berman in the Southern District Court of New York.

Pro bono is an integral part of Carolina’s work as well. In addition to her continued involvement in Citizenship initiatives in Brazil, Carolina has worked in human rights pro bono cases in collaboration with international nonprofit non-governmental organizations.

Representative experience

Represents the largest Brazilian energy company in three complex ICC construction arbitration matters under New York law.

Successfully defended one of the largest energy companies in Europe on a DIS construction/energy arbitration involving a project in South America. 

Advises an international power company with regards to compliance matters and is currently assisting in a large anticorruption investigation.

Worked on two ICSID arbitrations involving the Kingdom of Spain under the Energy Charter Treaty.

Worked on an ICC dispute arising out of a breach of distributorship agreement under New York law between a Colombian and an American company.

Advised Argentinian and Mexican companies in compliance matters.
